The other day, I found myself scrolling through old photos—those random snapshots buried in my phone’s camera roll or tucked away in digital albums from years ago. And as I flipped through those moments, I had this overwhelming thought:
I wish I had more.
More pictures of the everyday stuff.
More of the messy house.
More of the toddler meltdowns and chaotic snack times.
More of the grocery store runs with babies in footie pajamas and sleepy car seat snuggles.
Because here’s the truth that hits harder the further you get from those early days:
Photos only grow more valuable with time.
What feels incredibly ordinary today—the toys scattered across the floor, the stack of laundry on the couch, your kids in mismatched pajamas—is the very stuff you’ll miss the most down the road. It’s not just about the milestones and the posed portraits. It’s the in-between moments that tell the real story of your family’s life.
As a family photographer (and a mom myself), I can’t count how many times I’ve heard people say, “I wish I had taken more pictures when the kids were little,” or “I didn’t think I’d want photos of that… but now I’d give anything to have them.”

The Importance of Capturing the Everyday
When we think about photography, we often think about the “big” moments—birthdays, vacations, family photo sessions in the fall. And yes, those are beautiful and important! But there’s something uniquely meaningful about capturing the little things.
The way your child clutches their favorite stuffed animal.
The way your partner looks at your baby during story time.
The kitchen dance parties, the messy faces, the quiet cuddles at bedtime.
These are the fleeting, ordinary moments that become the most extraordinary memories.

Why You Should Take the Picture (Even If It’s Not “Perfect”)
I know it’s easy to hesitate. Maybe your house doesn’t look photo-ready. Maybe you’re in sweatpants and your hair’s doing something weird. Maybe the lighting is awful, or the kids aren’t cooperating.
Take the picture anyway.
Because one day, you’ll look back and you won’t see the mess.
You’ll see the love.
You’ll see the realness of your life.
You’ll remember how it felt to be in that season.
And if you’re worried about being in the frame? I’ll say this as loudly as I can: Get in the photo. Even if you’re not feeling your best. Even if you’re behind the camera more often than in front of it. Your kids will want to see you—not just what you looked like, but how you showed up, how you loved them, how you lived together.

You’ll Never Regret It
You’ll never regret having that photo.
You’ll only wish you had more.
So take the picture. Take it on your phone. Hand it to your partner. Book the photo session. Snap the blurry, silly, real-life shots that don’t feel like much right now.
Because someday, they’ll mean everything.
